Local Cuisine

Eating out in Granada is always a pleasure. Once you know where to go, you’ll find that the restaurants offer a fantastic variety of 'surf and turf', fresh seafood from the Mediterranean and meats and cheeses from the mountains, all at astonishingly affordable prices and all the more delicious when accompanied by a good bottle of Rioja.

Meals are most enjoyable at lunch time, the traditional meal time for the Spaniards, when you can sit out on a terrace and soak up the sun at the same time. Most restaurants offer a menu of the day at lunchtimes which are very good value for money, but you don’t always have to pay for your meals, as Granada is one of the few cities in Spain that still follows that great tradition of Tapas.

These are little dishes of local cuisine that are served free with each drink in the many bars to be found in this great city. If you like the idea of tapas but want something more substantial you can order “raciones” in most bars and restaurants. These are large portions of tapas with the purpose of sharing, ideal for groups of people as you get to taste lots of different dishes.
